SNAPPER:
They are one of the most sort after fish to take home. They love to feed on pilchards. They are a fighing fish, hence, a pleasure to catch. Snapper can be caught all year round. Large snapper come into both Port Philip Bay and Western Port every season starting as early as the end of September to the start of January. There are many snapper locations that are outlined under fishing spots.

Line size: 8-10 kg (300 meter in length)
Hook size: short shank of around 4/0

WHITING:
King George Whiting are the ones to catch. You can spend hours til you get a bite !! They are typically caught closer to shore amongst the rocky sea beds. They love to feed on scallops, prawn and fresh squid from experience. They love soft bait. The best time to catch these fish is between November through to April.

-Line size: 6 kg (300 meter in length)
-Hook size: long shank of around 2/0

TROUT:
These fish are hot blooded. Trolling for trout is the most popular way to fish. They can be typically spoted anywhere around both bays. As they round up white bait, the sea gals may be a sign of there presence. Trout are always on the move so you just have to keep an eye out for them. Silver/ Steel lures will do a great job as they can reflect light easier, hence, seen easier.

-Line size: 15 kg (300 meter in length)
-Lure: shiny lure with hooks around 4/0

PIKE (Snook):
They are fun to catch. Trolling for pike is the best method. I have caught many trolling out of sandringham, black rock reef areas. Silver/ Steel lures will do a great job as they can reflect light easier. I have had good experience in cathing a good few off anonyma shoal, out of half moon bay.

-Line size: 15 kg (300 meter in length)
-Lure: shiny lure with hooks around 4/0

GARFISH:
The best time to catch them is when the sun comes out. Sprinkle bread crumbs and watch for any moment of them coming up to feed. Long shank hooks with a very tiny piece of bait is needed. The finest line with the float will be ideal.

-Line size: 1 kg with (300 meter in length)
-Hook: Long Shank, around 1/2

Other... SQUID:
Squid are fun to catch. Squid are of the phylum Mollusca, class Cephalopoda, order Decapoda. Colourful lures are always the best for smaller squid. As for larger squid, live bait (typically grass whiting), put on a skewered lure is the best. This is my dads favourite method for the larger squid. The top two favourite fishing spots for larger squid is Queenscliff and Flinders.

-Line size: 8 kg with (300 meter in length)
-Lure: Shiny lures. Live fresh whole skewered bait is the best for larger squid.
